Section 741.29, F.S. requires all law enforcement officers to complete training on adopted statewide policies and procedures for administering a lethality assessment during domestic violence calls that involve intimate partner violence (IPV). This course explains what a lethality assessment is, when and how to administer it during a domestic violence call, the process for advising the victim of the nearest locally certified domestic violence center, and what to include in the police report and filing packet.

All law enforcement officers have until October 1, 2026, to complete this mandatory one-time training. Students who attend the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program (BRTP) for Law Enforcement beginning on or after July 1, 2026, will have satisfied this requirement. A law enforcement officer may not administer this lethality assessment to a victim if they have not completed the online training to administer it. The successful completion of this course will satisfy that mandatory retraining requirement and may count for one hour toward an officer’s 40 hours of mandatory retraining.
